TOSHIE OUE
I am a Kilkenny-based artist who explores the essence of nature, the lives of people, and animals through my paintings and sculptures. My work also aims to convey a profound appreciation for the natural environment.
In my paintings, I depict scenes and landscapes that have inspired me through firsthand observation, with a particular focus on capturing the essence of light and water as central motifs. When I’m deeply moved by something I’ve experienced, I feel compelled to convey that emotion to others through my art. I also create realistic portraits of people and animals, employing precise techniques to capture their physical likeness while striving to express their inner essence and character through the painting.
In my woodworking pieces, I focus on the theme of fusion between human craftsmanship and nature. I am dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of local wood, incorporating live edges and organic forms. I hone a keen sense of the material, striving to collaborate with it to bring out the inherent grace within each piece.
I earned a degree in Visual Communication Design from Seika University in Kyoto. I embarked on my career as a painter in 2000, and was honored with the “Fernand Bivel” Special Jury Prize at the 216th “LE SALON” Competition in Paris in 2005. I have held exhibitions in several countries, including Spain, Italy, France, and Japan. Then, I am expanding my creative expression by engaging in sculpture.
Through my diverse creative works in painting, portraiture, and woodworking, I hope to connect and share the beauty of nature with viewers. It would bring me great joy if my work could evoke empathy, remind viewers of familiar scenes, or help them discover unknown aspects of their inner selves.
